A large proportion of small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in Asia believe that the IT sector is the leading area for growth opportunities this year.
According to a UPS Asia report, 39 per cent of SME bosses in the Asia-Pacific region believe that the IT market offers the most growth potential this year, followed by the building and construction sectors, with 29 per cent and 19 per cent of the vote, respectively, reports Indias Financial Express.
"In earlier days, the information technology sector only provided service to the banking sector but after globalisation, most of the sectors started linking their organisational activities with IT," commented K Rangarajan, the head of Indias Centre for SME Studies.
"The growth opportunity in India started from fields like logistics and construction, among others," he added.
However, the study found that a limited qualified workforce and limitations in regard to innovations in ecommerce and IT were the leading obstacles to advancement in the sector.
China, Korea and India are widely viewed as having the most IT growth and web development potential in the region, according to the report.
