The Isle of Man and offshore companies will benefit from the recent introduction of the 15 per cent tax regime for regulated online gambling operators within the UK.
Gordon Brown, the chancellor, announced the initiative last week, with the secretary of state for culture, media and sport, Tessa Jowell, adding that such an initiative was imperative to ensure integrity within the industry and to protect the public.
With the Isle of Man exempt from such legislation through its status as remote gaming location, alongside Gibraltar and the Channel Islands, the islands authorities have expressed their confidence that offshore companies will continue to see it as an attractive destination and people will not associate the rate of taxation with the integrity of the industry.
"We do not differ from the UK on the quality or regulatory fronts. Where we do differ is in tax regimes and the changes in the UK will make use even more attractive to the industry," stated the Isle of Man Treasurys director of e-business Tim Craine.
Recently, the chairman of the Poker Players Alliance, Alfonse DAmato, visited the Isle of Man to learn about the technicalities of poker licensing and regulations.
