Some of the biggest businesses on the country are to help out around 10,000 small firms hit by the recent severe flooding.
As reported by the Sunday Times, John Hutton, the new business and enterprise secretary, this week unveiled the plans during a visit to south-west England.
Corporate giants including Shell, Asda, BP and BT have pledged to help smaller companies suffering as a result of the summers exceptional flood conditions.
Mr Hutton said: "It is clear that people in flood-hit communities want their lives to return to normal as quickly as possible.
"This has to mean using all the resources and expertise available to help local businesses get back on their feet, providing their own communities with work, services and business as usual."
The big companies involved are to join a working group committed to providing support and assistance on issues such as future asset protection and the reconstruction of web services.
A range of techniques will be employed including running seminars, teaming up with individual enterprises and giving advice at chambers of commerce.
Several other businesses have agreed in principle to support the initiative, including National Grid, Scottish Power, Centrica, Eon and Scottish & Southern.
