Small UK businesses have been offered free advice on new company legislation regarding trademarks.
The UK Intellectual Property Office (UK-IPO) is running a series of events next month focusing on how changes to the trademark system may affect businesses.
As reported by Startups.co.uk, Robin Webb, director of trademarks at the UK-IPO, explained: "These changes affect every trade mark applicant and holder - and the Office is keen to ensure that as many of our customers are made aware of the change in our procedures."
Small firms will be able to take advantage of the free two-hour sessions to learn how to make the most of their business ideas.
A recent survey by UK-IPO revealed that the typical business start-up lacks knowledge about intellectual property rights - and could be missing out on valuable revenue as a result.
According to the study, just 11 per cent of firms with fewer than nine employees know that if they publish an idea before it is officially filed, a patent application will be made invalid.
