The government must take steps to ensure that all dealings with small and medium sized businesses are consistent, transparent and fully accountable, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) warned today.
The FSB said that government policy makers needed to more to make sure that every business start-up and small company is dealt in an equitable way.
It supported government plans to reduce the amount of red tape surrounding small firms after it was revealed that the average SME spends as much as 28 hours every week filling in forms, but also urged caution.
John Walker, a spokesperson for the federation, said: "We welcome the government signaling its intention to reduce the administrative burden on small businesses but we have heard similar noises in the past.
"It is time for action to follow words so that small firms can spend less time filling in forms and more time creating jobs."
The FSB is the largest group in the UK dedicated to promoting and protecting the needs of self-employed and small business owners in the UK.
