HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has announced a raft of measures to help businesses and individuals affected by the current outbreak of foot and mouth disease among livestock.
In a recent press release, the organisation stated that it recognised the difficulties faced by affected parties in meeting their tax obligations.
A new helpline has been set up to support those affected, which should enable those in difficulty to get faster, practical help and advice on tax planning and payment.
Kitty Ussher, economic secretary to the Treasury, said: "We want to offer help to people who are being affected by the outbreak of foot and mouth disease and the restrictions on the movement of livestock.
"Some of them may be facing cash flow difficulties and our new helpline will be able to offer them fast, practical advice on their tax affairs."
HMRC has announced it will defer collection of taxes and duties, or agree instalment arrangements in certain circumstances.
Debt collection proceedings will also be suspended - and where thought appropriate, interest and surcharges on tax paid late may be deemed unnecessary.
Last month, HMRC introduced a number of tax mitigation measures to assist businesses and individuals affected by the recent flooding in many parts of the UK.
