Small firms who try and sort out IT problems themselves can actually cause more problems, one computing expert has explained.
Brett Marino, business manager at Small Business Computing, recently emphasised that using external IT companies to resolve issues could save money and make expansion less disruptive in the future.
He continued: "Problems occur when companies are just starting out and people use their personal experience from their home-family PC and apply that to their office environment.
"People often spend a lot of time and money correcting this type of set-up to create a more business standard network.
"Again, this is where experience from an IT services company can help."
The typical UK business start-up does not have the staff numbers, time or resources to allocate to properly maintaining its IT network and web services.
This has led to outsourcing of IT services becoming usual practice among SMEs in the UK.
A few items commonly overlooked by small firms, Mr Marino explained, included updating anti-virus software, a lack of firewalls protecting the network - and inadequate backing up of data.
Professional IT support from the start, he emphasised, allows businesses to be set up properly from the first instance and therefore saves money in the long run.
