The new campaigns manager for the Forum of Private Business (FPB) has emphasised his commitment to helping SMEs.
Matt Hardman, who previously held the position of media and PR officer, is expected to push for measures to make it easier for small firms to deal with time-consuming red tape and elements of company legislation.
He said recently: "I have a vested interest in representing smaller firms; my wife, father and brother all run their own businesses.
"I am looking forward to the challenges of campaigning on behalf of FPB members and helping to create the right environment for the profitable growth of their companies.
"To champion the cause of smaller firms is very rewarding work."
Mr Hardman added he would also work to ensure that reforms made by the new prime minister do not adversely affect small businesses.
He explained: "One of our concerns is that, following changes made by Gordon Brown, the voice of smaller companies will be ignored in favour of their larger counterparts.
"We will be campaigning to make sure that the UKs smaller businesses arent left out in the cold."
The FPB works to ensure private businesses in the UK get a fair deal. It provides support and money-saving advice for those embarking on company formation and running smaller firms.
