Transport for London (TfL) has launched a new scheme encouraging SMEs to adopt a new way of working.
"Enterprise", launched this week, is intended to help business start-ups and other SMEs across London establish "workplace travel plans".
These encourage employees to avoid using their cars and therefore tackle the issue of carbon emissions and global warming.
Ben Plowden, programme director of Travel Demand Management at TfL said: "Workplace travel plans are one of the many schemes Transport for London has promoted in recent years to get Londoners to not only walk and cycle more, but also to work flexibly and car-share to work.
"Similar projects with larger businesses have been a huge success in the past and the Enterprise scheme aims to support London’s small and medium sized businesses achieve similar results."
TfL points out that as well as protecting the environment, businesses will also save time and money by taking part in the scheme.
The organisation highlights the potential saving of business travel costs and the reduction in a companys need for car parking spaces.
TfL also emphasises the health benefits of the scheme; with possible improvements in the health and productivity of staff through travelling more actively.
TfL already provides certain incentives to help support businesses and company formation , including advice and assistance from local travel plan coordinators and marketing merchandise to help promote sustainable transport within the business involved.
