Customers who receive a Christmas card from a business are more likely to purchase its product or service, according to new research.
A poll commissioned by Royal Mail revealed that 69 per cent of consumers said they would spend up to £100 with a company that gives them seasons greetings.
More than a quarter said that they would more that £100, while 12 per cent claimed that they would fork out at least £500 if company directors sent them personal cards.
Despite the technological surge of modern times and the proliferation of electronic seasonal messages, 84 per cent of the respondents to the survey stated a preference to receive Christmas cards via the post.
This figure rose to 91 per cent among the over 55s, who preferred the post to email. Thierry Saada from Royal Mail told Business Zone: "A Christmas card sends an important message that you value your customers and our research shows that consumers respond well to this personal touch. "Sending a Christmas card helps businesses reconnect with customers that have lapsed and thank current ones, leading to increased loyalty and sales."
