Multi function printers (MFPs) can be "essential in maximising productivity" for small and medium-sized enterprises, according to Lexmark UK.
The manufacturer and supplier of printing solutions to over 150 countries, said that company directors of SMEs should invest in a printer which can print, copy, fax and scan in order to truly "unlock the productivity of their office equipment".
Investing in a fax machine, scanner and printer as three stand-alone products, incurs more administrative and service costs of three separate vendors.
In order to save costs, Lexmark advised that small businesses should invest in a multi-functional product.
According to a recent survey by Ipsos and commissioned by Lexmark, 62 per cent of company directors of SMEs in the UK have laser MFPs, but just 55 per cent use them to fax and scan.
While cutting costs is vital at the lower end of the market, for smaller SMEs, it is more critical that the product which they invest in is reliable, Lexmark advised.
If a small company only has one printer and it breaks down, print jobs cannot be re-routed to another device, as they would be in an enterprise environment.
