Some 60 per cent of small business owners do their accounts out of hours because they are far too busy to running their businesses during the day, according to a survey by online accountancy firm Beanaccounting.co.uk.
The companys web-based accounts system logs when people record their business transactions and revealed that three in five entrepreneurs and company directors do so outside the normal nine-to-five working hours.
Most of the respondents said that they were far too occupied during the day with other business related commitments to have enough time to get everything done, while others said that they preferred to file accounts at night when they had fewer distractions.
Mark Robinson, company director of Beanaccounting.co.uk told Newbusiness: "There are so many different things to juggle that many businesspeople find themselves doing quite important tasks at odd times, including in the early hours of the morning."
The argument about Britain opting out from the 48-hour limit in the European Working Time Directive has been an ongoing issue for some time.
The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) opposes the removal of the opt-out from the Working Time Directive as it believes that working hours should be a flexible arrangement between the employer and employee.
The FSB believes that removing the opt-out would greatly compromise competitiveness as well as removing the choice from the employee to work overtime when they wish to earn some extra money.
