The software storage vendor StorMagic has announced intensions for grabbing a piece of the UK market by targeting small to medium-sized enterprises through its channel.
The company is to launch it StorMagic SM Series, an iSCSI-based storage area network (SAN) solution in the UK, which will help company directors to expand their potential for ecommerce.
The SM Series software runs on a standard Windows-based Intel server connected to storage. The solution uses software agents on application servers, such as file, print, and Web servers, to create a SAN.
Mike Stolz, vice president of sales and marketing at StorMagic said: "All of StorMagics products are based on our initial idea of a software provider that is only for small and medium businesses."
A number of vendors, including LeftHand Networks and IBM have been cranking up their iSCSI SAN efforts over recent months but unlike its competitors StorMagic will focus its attention of companies of 50 to 250 people.
Hans O Sullivan, chief executive of StorMagic, said: "We wanted to provide SMEs with simple equipment that is non-technical and affordable.
"Our competitors sell both hardware and software to resellers; however StorMagic provides only software, and this allows partners to choose a more cost-effective hardware vendor."
Mr Stolz added that the company will be "recruiting resellers to drive this business forward" as StorMagic plans to launch a partner programme next month.
