Those small businesses hoping to do their tax planning soon may be daunted to hear that the new edition of Tolleys Yellow Tax Handbook stretches to a considerable 10,000 pages.
This means a 40 per cent increase in the books volume of pages since 2001 and may mean some business start-ups see their workload jump.
The book, which brings together all the tax laws in the UK, has 9.866 pages in total across four different volumes.
Mike Truman, LexisNexis tax spokesman, told PA: "The complexity of the UK tax system continues to be a challenge for most businesses.
"Even when the government attempts to shorten legislation, for example with the recent anti-avoidance measures, this comes at the expense of pages and pages of HM Revenue & Customs guidance."
The books 2001 edition had 5,952 pages across two volumes - a figure that shows the increasing prominence tax legislation and tax mitigation has in running a business.
Mr Truman concluded: "In some areas the size of the tax code should naturally reduce in the next few years as the Tax Law Rewrite Project reaches its completion."
