Road pricing poses a significant threat to small businesses in the UK, new research has suggested.
The survey, by Alliance & Leicester, found that 62 per cent of smaller firms felt their profits would be adversely affected by any such scheme.
Some 86 per cent of respondents also said they relied on road travel.
Steve Jennings, director of business banking at Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank, explained that firms may be forced to raise the price of goods and services in reaction to new road pricing arrangements.
As reported by Startups.co.uk, he emphasised: "Small businesses need to think hard about how they are going to prepare themselves for road pricing.
"For many, simply passing the cost onto customers or reducing their customer base is not going to solve the problem of road pricing, especially when we know that consumers are already reining in their spending as interest rates are at their highest level in six years."
Over a quarter of those firms questioned said that road pricing costs might force them to remain in their local area, therefore affecting their existing customer base.
An expert recently emphasised that there are numerous benefits of company formation and development based in a persons own home, provided the right technology and web services are available.
John DGroot, director of the StartupCo, commented: "Running your business from home will reduce the amount of travel - which is an important issue - and it will avoid the problems of duplicated premises
[and] people spending lots of time travelling to and from work."
