Small businesses may be ousted by larger companies come the arrival of the 2012 Olympics, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) said yesterday.
The FSB welcomed the games as offering "a really good opportunity for small businesses to get involved" in theory, but said the reality could be much different.
Think London, the capitals official foreign direct investment agency, said the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will see Londons businesses - large and small - working together for common goals, creating jobs and improving opportunities.
But many company directors of small firms have expressed their concern that they could be bypassed as contracts for work go to bigger companies.
Simon Briault, spokesperson for the FSB, said: "The Olympics offer a really good opportunity for small businesses to develop new business start-ups and come up with new business ideas and we are quite excited about that.
"However, there is at the moment quite a bit of scepticism among our members and among small business generally, that they will actually be able to get a piece of the pie."
The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) launched a website called CompeteFor in January 2007 as a site for the publication of games-related contract opportunities.
